QIAO SHI (name indicated in Chinese characters) pronunciation: Ts’iao Che

 

Born in 1924 in Zhejiang, South East coastal province (city of Dinghai). Joins the CCP in 1940. Clandestine activities in Shanghai as part of the general cell of Shanghai secondary schools.

 

After 1949 Head of the Communist Youth League in the capital of his native province, Hangzhou. It is for his activities with the League that he participates in the CCP’s Bureau for Eastern China.

 

Prior to 1964, he was the Head of the technical section for base construction at Anshan’s steelmaking company in Manchuria

 

In 1964, he was called upon at the CC’s International Liaison Department where he slowly climbed the ranks

 

In May 1982 he became [the ILD’s]1 Director, succeeding to Ji Pengfei. However he soon steps down in order to become the Head of the CC’s Organisation Department

 

During the CCP’s 12th Congress,2 he elected to the CC, and becomes
